Reduce Stress With Time Management Strategies Today!

Your stress declines when you master time management. A major source of stress is feeling like you don’t have enough time to do everything important to you. It feels like you have to sacrifice one area of your life for the other, such as family for career or health for career. Perhaps you even went the opposite route and sacrificed your career for fun. With time management, you can balance all areas of your life and thus reduce stress. Here are four time management tips that reduce stress:

Opt for Mini-Vacations Over One Long Vacation

GSD_Work Life BalanceNot many Americans can afford to have one long vacation each year anymore because their careers won’t allow them to take that much vacation time at once. Even for those who have the time and money for it should consider whether mini-vacations or one long-term vacation is better. When you take a long vacation, do you return to work feeling stressed out? Do you have a difficult time getting back into the flow of work? If so, then smaller vacations sprinkled throughout the year are probably better for you. You’ll feel less stressed out when you aren’t away from work for a few weeks. You will also get to see more places throughout the year when you opt for more frequent but shorter vacations.

Limit Your Time On Social Media

Social media can be a huge source of stress because you’re constantly being bombarded by other people’s lives and demand for your attention. You can easily slip into a negative state of mind when you browse social media and you read the complaints of others or catch the latest celebrity gossip trending. In order to not get sucked into that, you must limit your time on social media. How much time you allow yourself on social media is up to you, but make sure you enforce the rule. You can time yourself or use an app that keeps track for you.

Don’t Obsess Over Task Completion

Some people become so caught up in their to-do lists that they obsess over task completion and forget about other important areas of their lives. All of their tasks tend to be work or chore related as well. When you don’t spend enough time relaxing and having fun, however, your stress levels will rise. Don’t obsess over task completion and deprive yourself of down time. If you have trouble setting the to-do list down, then start scheduling fun activities, so you can check them off and get the relaxation you need.

Establish Work Boundaries

You’ll find the person who doesn’t have work boundaries bringing a stack of paper home from work, taking phone calls or responding to texts during dinner, and checking emails first thing in the morning. In our work-worshipping society, it’s easy to become consumed in your work, but it’s essential to have work boundaries in place. Working too much is not good for your health. To reduce stress, you need to establish work boundaries and honor them. Examples of rules you can set for yourself include:

  • No cell phone or computer usage during dinner. Eat with your family and enjoy the time spent together. If you live alone, take advantage of the solitude to meditate while you eat.
  • Don’t check your emails or social media during the first hour of your day.
  • Never cancel a date to see your friends or family because of work.
  • Don’t work inside the home. If you need to work, then go out to a coffee shop or your office. At the very least, don’t work in your bedroom because it will make it more difficult for you to sleep at night. The bedroom is supposed to be a place of relaxation and sleep.

Stress often results from managing your time poorly. Relaxation time is a factor many people often neglect when it comes to scheduling and living their lives. You could have the best work schedule in place but it’s not as good as you think it is if you’re overworking yourself. You’re not managing your time as well as you could. If you’ve been under a lot of stress, then try implementing these time management tips. You’ll breathe a sigh of relief once you do.
