Effective Techniques For Time Management

Most of us have aims and ambitions that we’re trying to fulfil in the long run. For the moment, you might be caught up in your day-to-day routine. But in the long run, you’re aiming for a lot more.

So how can you reach those long-term goals which you cherish so deeply? At times, you might feel like you’re losing track of them altogether. If this happens to you, take some time to put the following time management tips, strategies and tools into action:

Mental Visualization

When you’re busy dealing with a task, you may not feel like you have the time to visualize. However, it can help to take a moment, close your eyes and think about the way in which you’d like things to go. You can do this for the simplest of tasks and the most complicated as well. It’s a way of tapping into your intuition and can show you shortcuts to the things that you want to accomplish.

Try this the next time you’re feeling frustrated and you’re sure to see some results. Don’t expect too much right away. Even if the only thing you accomplish is calming your mind, wouldn’t that be worth it?

Changing Your Environment

For some people, the above technique proves to be too difficult. If there’s a lot of noise in your environment or you just don’t have the patience to try to calm down when things are hectic, you can still visualize by changing up your environment.

In order to do this, look around your work environment and think about whether the things surrounding you are positive or negative in nature. Do you have a ratty old chair that you haven’t managed to replace yet? Do you have fluorescent lights that bother you all day long? Do you have any nice photos of your family at your work desk or is it all cluttered up with papers and old knickknacks that you don’t like?

Try to get rid of the things that scream negativity. Work in a positive environment and you’ll find that you’re accomplishing things a lot faster.

What’s Meaningful To You?

Sometimes, you might think that you’re working in a nice environment but it may not be meaningful to you. Maybe you got an interior decorator to do up your offices and everyone who comes to them compliments you on them. So there’s nothing negative in your environment per se.

However, does your office reflect who you are? Does it have any personal touches? Do you look up, see that Monet painting you love and immediately relax? Or do you look up at Kandinsky and feel nothing? Not that there’s anything wrong with Kandinsky, but maybe he’s just not your favorite painter!

So try to introduce some meaningful objects or images in your environment to make it reflect who you are. Being able to relax and feel at home even when you’re working will help you to accomplish things faster.

Vision Board

One great way to accomplish your goals, short-term as well as long, is to set up a vision board. On this vision board, you should put up images that reflect what you want in life and in your workplace. You can get these images from anywhere–magazines that you like, picture postcards, book covers, Hallmark cards etc. If you come across an image and it appeals to you and seems to reflect the type of company and life that you want to build, put it on your vision board.

It’s also a good idea to keep changing your vision board every so often, so that it reflects your current goals. It may sound mystical but you’ll often find that the things you visualize in this way will get accomplished.
